Building Midnight Photobooths: From Sketches to CNC

When we started Midnight Photobooths, we knew we didn’t just want to buy a booth off the shelf. We wanted to create something totally our own - something stylish, unique, and made with as much care as the photos it would capture.

Sketches and First Ideas

It all began with rough sketches in a notebook. We played around with shapes, styles, and ideas, trying to picture how the booth would actually look at a wedding. Over time, a few designs started to stand out.

Last year we headed down to the Photobooth Exhibition in London, which gave us loads of inspiration. Seeing other booths on display was exciting, but it also made us even more determined to build something that felt completely different.

From Screen to 3D Prints

Once we had a design we liked, we jumped into SolidWorks to bring it to life digitally. That let us test proportions, play with details, and see how everything would fit together.

To make it easier to visualise, we even 3D printed little models of the booth. Mini versions we could hold, turn around, and refine.

The First Build

Eventually it was time to go full size. Using the digital files, we had the first pieces cut out of wood on a CNC machine. Slowly but surely, the booth started to take shape.

That first prototype wasn’t perfect, but seeing it in real life was a big moment - it was proof that all those sketches, models, and ideas could actually become something physical.
